Progressive Discipline Policy
Company-Wide
Several Metalcrafters policies say “disciplinary action per Metalcrafters policy,” but there is no single discipline policy they point to — and today three different ladders exist (PPE, Cell Phone, generic). This draft consolidates them into one standard. Requires review by leadership and an employment attorney before use.
Purpose & Principles
To hold every team member to the same fair, consistent, documented standard — coaching first, correction when needed.
Employment with Metalcrafters is at-will; nothing here changes that or guarantees a fixed number of steps. [Confirm at-will language with counsel.]
Standard Progression
- Step 1 — Verbal Coaching (documented): a conversation with your manager; logged in the Metalcrafters App.
- Step 2 — Written Warning: documented, with clear expectations to correct.
- Step 3 — Final Written Warning: reviewed with management; last opportunity to correct.
- Step 4 — Termination of Employment.
Each step is documented in the Metalcrafters App, and the employee is asked to acknowledge it.
Manager Discretion
Depending on the severity of the issue, Metalcrafters may begin at any step — up to and including immediate termination. Steps are a guide, not a guarantee.
Serious Violations (may result in immediate action)
- Endangering the safety of yourself or others.
- Falsification of time, records, or company documents.
- Theft, dishonesty, or misuse of company property.
- Violence, threats, or harassment.
- Drugs or alcohol on the job (see Drug & Alcohol Policy).
- Gross insubordination.
Relationship to Policy-Specific Accountability
Some policies track their own occurrences (e.g., the PPE Policy’s quarterly tiers, the Cell Phone Policy’s offenses). Those occurrences feed into this overall process; they do not replace it.
Employee Acknowledgment
I acknowledge that I have received, read, and understand the Metalcrafters Progressive Discipline Policy, including that employment is at-will and that serious violations may result in immediate action up to termination.
